Welcome to Rose Of India

30 Rainsford Rd, Chelmsford CM1 2QD, United Kingdom

General Info

Tucked away at 30 Rainsford Rd, Chelmsford CM1 2QD, United Kingdom, Rose Of India is the kind of Indian restaurant that feels both welcoming and reliable from the moment you step inside. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, making it a comfortable spot whether you’re planning a casual dinner or bringing the family along. It’s clearly a place that understands its guests, offering a balance of flavourful food and thoughtful service.

The menu is where Rose Of India really shines. It’s packed with classic Indian favourites, but what stood out most during my visit were the signature dishes. The Chicken Dhansak delivered a perfect mix of sweet, sour, and spicy notes, while the Water Chicken Massala had a rich, creamy texture that felt indulgent without being overwhelming. If you’re visiting for the first time, the Mixed Tandoori Grill is a great choice-it gives you a bit of everything, cooked with that smoky depth you’d expect from a proper tandoor.

Starters and sides also deserve attention. The Samosa came crisp and full of flavour, and the Poppadom Sauces added a fun, tangy kick to the beginning of the meal. Even something simple like a Fried Egg was done just right, showing that the kitchen pays attention to the little details as much as the main dishes.

Beyond the food, the restaurant offers a range of services that make the overall experience smooth and enjoyable. You can enjoy a glass of beer or wine with your meal, and the availability of Wi-Fi makes it easy to stay connected if needed. Payments are hassle-free too, thanks to NFC mobile payment options. For families, it’s reassuring to see that the space is good for kids, with a laid-back vibe that doesn’t feel too formal or restrictive.

From what I experienced, Rose Of India delivers consistently on both food and service. The location is convenient, the menu is satisfying, and the overall experience feels genuine. It’s the kind of place that earns positive reviews not by trying too hard, but by simply doing things right.

What customers say?

“ Went on a Monday night and it was packed, like a Saturday night so that was the first good sign, then poppadoms with the usual dips tho they did have two of their own dips that were very good. The main meal was excellent, fresh hot and the chicken was tender not tough and rubbery like it can be at some Indian restaurants, we'll worth the visit. ”

“ My Wife & I and Children have been eating here for years, takeaway every Friday and also occasionally eat in the restaurant, the food & the staff are second to none & on a Friday evening as we waiting for our order it's like a Friday night curry club, the same people week in week out and a glass of cobra and a chat it really is a special place, staff are always up for a chat even though they are busy all the time! It just goes to show how good the food is on repeat customers every week that tells you all about a place. Jim and his brother and staff are amazing, unlike the team they support Man Utd . Keep up the good work boys, the food is exceptional and atmosphere is a special place. ”

“ Yesterday e had a lovely meal at the Rose of India. The service was great, and the food was delicious. The waiter serving us was polite and attentive. They also catered well for my wife’s allergies. Not all Indian restaurants are as careful when it comes to allergies. It’s nice that the Rose of India was careful regarding allergies. Also, plenty of vegan options available. The waiter knew exactly what I could have as a vegan. Even though the restaurant was full, we didn’t have to wait too long for our food. I would recommend booking a table if you’re planning to dine here on a Saturday evening. All the tables were full when we were here on a Saturday night. ”

“ Absolutely love the food here. Very good quality. If you like heat maybe go slightly hotter than you would otherwise do. But that is not a criticism. The kitchen will cook to what you ask for. This is a gem of a restaurant. ”

“ Excellent Indian Restaurant in Chelmsford. Menu choice was great. Each dish was delicious. Service very good. The waiter took his time to explain how the dishes were freshly made including the Mango chutney that accompanied the Poppadoms. Good wine and beer choices too. As always we'd ordered too much and were kindly offered the remaining food to be placed into containers to take away. I would recommend this restaurant. ”
